To compete with the growing VoIP internet phone service market, traditional land line companies are now adding unlimited long distance calling plans to their offerings. In my area, this service is being advertised for around $40 per month. If your long distance bill normally runs higher than this, you might consider this a bargain price - until you see what the alternatives are.
I have a friend who normally spends around $60 a month on long distance, with some months reaching over $100. This is not an uncommon scenario in today’s mobile society. At $40 per month, her phone company’s unlimited long distance calling plan would easily save her $240 a year. This is quite a bargain, but she could save even more by switching to a non-traditional telephone service like VoIP. VoIP technology relies on the inexpensive internet to route calls, as opposed to expensive PSTN (public switched telephone network - also known as a “land line”). Internet phone service has been around for several years, but the technology is perfected now and the quality and reliability is suitable for everyday residential phone use.
Cable television companies are now offering unlimited long distance calling (which includes unlimited local calling as well) for around $40 per month in my area. If my friend were to disconnect her land line phone service and switch to cable VoIP, she would save even more money - around $300 per year. Since disconnecting telephone service means she can no longer use dial up internet, she will have to cancel this and get cable internet too. Cable internet costs more than dial up, so we have to take that into consideration.
Here’s a breakdown of her cost savings with this scenario:
Current Land Line Phone + Dial Up Internet
Basic monthly phone service = $25
Average monthly long distance = $60
Dial up internet service = $20
Total monthly phone + internet = $ 105
Annual phone + internet = $1260
Cable Internet + cable phone service (disconnect land line phone)
Phone service (with unlimited l/d) = $40
Broadband internet = $40
Total monthly phone + internet = $ 80
Annual phone + internet = $ 960
Total annual savings vs. current = $ 300
VoIP phone service through the cable company will save my friend $60 more a year than the phone company’s unlimited long distance plan. That’s quite a bargain, and she will get high speed broadband internet too! Also, with the internet phone service she’ll get a lot of bonus features that she would have to pay extra for with traditional phone service. Most VoIP phone service includes free voicemail, caller id, call waiting, call forwarding, 3 way conference calling, etc… Whether she chooses to use them or not, the features are included if she wants them. Unlimited local and long distance is a great deal through the cable company, but there is yet another option that will save even more…
Unlike cable companies, who offer internet phone service as an “add on” item, true VoIP providers focus totally on internet telephony. VoIP service providers are the pioneers in the industry, and internet phone service is their forte. These companies offer even better deals on unlimited long distance calling, and have the most experience with VoIP. There are several VoIP providers to choose from, but since I subscribe to Packet8 I’ll continue the savings example with them.
Packet8 offers unlimited local and long distance calling for a mere $20 a month. Just like cable VoIP, they also give you all the extra features for free. If my friend were to get broadband internet through her cable company, subscribe to Packet8’s unlimited plan and disconnect her land line phone - she would save a whopping $540 per year! Now that’s what I call a bargain. As an added benefit, she will never have to see another long distance phone bill again.

Broadband internet = $40

As you can see, it’s easy to save money with unlimited long distance calling. The type of service you choose determines how much you will save. If you never want to pay long distance charges again, you don’t have to. Put the extra money away, buy yourself a special treat or pay off some bills - and then make all the long distance calls you want for free!

The alarming rate of infertility among couples calls for serious efforts and attention from any woman who is serious about getting pregnant. Most women, and sometimes their partners, would want to learn when ovulation and implantation occurs, what is the best time for intercourse to achieve pregnancy and probably what are the usual miscarriage or pregnancy loss rates. Most often, the figures and data women are given are based upon averages, theoretical numbers or sometimes just plain guesses. This is because, ovulation, conception and implantation of fertilized ovum are a difficult topic to scientifically investigate, due to several human factors.
Timing the ovulation period is a very important step towards getting pregnant. With the latest scientific improvements, several methods and tests are available for determining, with a high degree of certainty, when your ovulation occurs. Pelvic ultrasound, looking at the ovaries, is the known standard in ovulation prediction researches, but obviously, in a practical situation of a woman trying to conceive, ultrasound is not feasible. A very important test which measures urinary LH has been shown to have a 100% correlation with ultrasound as far predicting timing. In a study, cervical mucous change only had a correlation of 48%, salivary ferning has 37% correlation and Basal Body Temperature charts correlated 30% with ultrasound ovulation prediction. You would, therefore, agree that those ovulation prediction tests are actually worth the headache.
For home use, ovulation detection kits that measure urinary LH surge just before ovulation, detection of LH occurs at above 30mIU/ml. This shows that even women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), with slightly higher resting LH values will still have accurate ovulation detection. The urinary LH surge occurs between 24-36 hours before ovulation. It is very important and useful for women seriously seeking conception because it gives you a window of warning. The test will show positive for a day or two and on rare occasions, three days, if you are lucky enough to catch the increase right at the beginning, when it is always a large release of hormone.
With timing and predicting ovulation out of the way, the next important thing is when is the best time for intercourse, in order to get pregnant?
A research report conducted in 1995 demonstrated that pregnancy only occurs if intercourse occurs within 6 days prior to and including ovulation day. Intercourse after the day of ovulation is not likely to result in pregnancy. The probability of conception ranged from 10% when intercourse occurred five days before ovulation to 33% when it occurred on the day of ovulation itself. This information suggests, therefore, that the best timing of intercourse for a woman seeking pregnancy, with a 28 day cycle would be days 10, 12, 14 and in cases of late ovulation, day 16. But if your cycle is longer or shorter than 28 days, the best timing for intercourse would be days -4, -2, 0, +2 with respect to the expected ovulation day.
After a keen ovulation timing and rounds of rigorous workout on the bed, you would definitely want to know if you’ve been successful. Most home use pregnancy tests that check urine beta HCG hormone are sensitive to a 20-25mIU/ml of HCG. The general applicable rule is to test for pregnancy when you are a day late for your menses or around 15 days after ovulation. The test would normally be positive anywhere from about 2-3 days before a missed menses to 4-5 days after.
The usefulness of testing for pregnancy really does depend upon how regular your menses are, or in effect, how regularly your ovulation occurs. It won’t make sense testing on day 15 after ovulation, or 28 days after the onset of the last menses, if you have a cycle that’s longer than 28 days or varies several days each month.
Getting pregnant is one thing, carrying the pregnancy to term, without losing it, is another important thing.
The time of implantation into the uterine lining plays an important role in pregnancy loss. It was generally believed that a pregnancy implants itself in the uterine lining on the 7th day after ovulation. But recent studies have shown that this is rarely the case. The study accurately determined the day of implantation by a very sensitive pregnancy test, HCG measurement compared to ovulation. The HCH hormone starts being produced when the fertilized ovum implants into the uterine lining. Findings from normal women trying to conceive showed that the first appearance of HCG, hence implantation, occurred 6-12 days after ovulation. 84% of the pregnancies evaluated implanted 8-10 days after ovulation and early pregnancy loss was shown to increase with later implantation. The study showed early pregnancy loss and day of implantation as thus:
- 13% of pregnancy loss implanted on day 9 - 26% on day 10 - 52% on day 11 - 86% on day 12 or more.
The overall total pregnancy loss up to 6 weeks was put at 25%. That may seem very high to most people, but it is important to remember that many of these pregnancy losses occur at the time that the women involved wasn’t even aware of the presence of the pregnancy. The normal pregnancy loss rate that most women know about is only about 15-18% of clinically recognized pregnancies making more than 40% of pregnancy loss unrecognized.

All colors have undertones, and the color experts have classified them for fashion as “warm” and “cool” or the latest “silver” and “gold”
To determine if you are a silver or a gold, place the metals one at a time against your skin and see which is the brightest, that brightest one will be you.
If you like a particular color and you don’t think it fall into your colors, this may not be true, you may still be able to wear it.
Most colors have an undertone, these undertones are what determines whether the color is “yours” or not.
Colors have a warm undertone or a cool undertone. If you want to wear that color you love, then find the fabric that has your “undertone” and this you will see by “laying” the fabric on you, by that I mean, draping across you and seeing the result, if your skin takes on a healthy glow, then that is for you, if it makes your skin look sallow and dull, then leave it where it is.
You will have a “power” color too. The power colors are mainly black, navy, grey and brown. One of these colors will suit you better than the others, The one you always feel good in, and makes your skin tone and eyes bright and healthy. Many people think black is the all powerful color, not so, if it doesn’t suit you it will have the opposite effect.
So try navy or brown, once again if the color drains from your face, don’t wear it.
Once you have established your power color, when you really want to make a statement, go for that job interview, wear POWER.
If you can afford to have your colors done, then I would suggest you do just that. Knowing you are wearing what suits you, will give you confidence beyond anything you have known before.

Therefore their programming efforts are not succeeding as well as they should at places like Carnegie Mellon, MIT and Berkeley. Is this to say I am criticizing their efforts entirely? No, however their mirroring theories of mimicking the human when interacting are not enough. Humans do not always want interaction with like minds of other humans. As we know opposites attract.
It is for this reason that I am calling for some interactive personality programs which run over one another to be integrated into the AI systems with some mirroring which has already been developed to remain and thus we will be better to simulate human behavior in machines which will be interactive robotic assistants. Consider this in 2006.
