When we think of adware, what comes to mind are those annoying and pesky ads that pop up out of nowhere whenever we are surfing the net. Anybody who has surfed through the net has encountered those irritating pop-up adwares advertising everything from computer software down to Viagra. Adwares are some of the most derided objects in the web alongside viruses, spyware and other malicious softwares and programs. Although adwares are alleged to be the most benign form of spyware, most web users hate the blatant and bothersome way of advertising. Most are often tricked into clicking on such adwares and end up unintentionally downloading something far more serious.
What are adwares, anyway? Adware or advertising-supported software is defined as any computer program or software package in which advertising and other marketing material are included with or automatically loaded by the software. Adwares are usually played back after installation. Some malicious adwares upload information about the computer or its user’s activities even without the consent of its user. Adwares most often take the form of banner ads that appear on pop up windows or anywhere on the computer screen.
Software applications display these advertising banners whenever a program is opened or through some other triggering mechanism. Most adwares are integrated into a free application. This is a way for the developers to recover the costs of creating such software. A prominent example of this is the Opera browser software, which is a free application but comes with a banner ad. The adware can only be removed once the user purchases and registers his copy of the software. It is also a revenue-generating mechanism. A company can sponsor adwares to capture more visitors and potential customers. Adware as a marketing strategy is just one of the many techniques used by websites to attract more traffic.
However, some adwares are more than just pesky and garish ads. In many cases, adwares accompany a more malicious program, which uploads information about the user collected without permission. The users surfing habits are then tracked; in some cases, the browser home page is altered or redirected to the adware company’s sponsoring site. These types of adwares are dangerous since they may jeopardize the computer system’s health. Aside from installing malicious software, they may also become an avenue for viruses to invade the system.
Adwares have come under fire not only because of their annoying presence in the form of pop ups and banners but also in the way they invade the privacy of the user. Trackware and Spyware are just two of the “evil” forms that adware can take. That is why most computer users make an effort to get rid of these adwares. Because of the annoying nature of pop-up adware, most browsers now employ an adware blocking system through the form of a pop-up blocker or adware blocker. Browsers such as Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Mozilla’s Firefox all use pop-up blockers, which instantly block or close any window that is triggered by adware in the sites that the user visits. These steps have significantly reduced the number of irritating adware that pop up every time a site is opened.
Most antivirus programs and utilities now feature an adware search and removal system. These programs indexes known adwares and spywares in the internet universe and searches for it in the user’s computers system then subsequently quarantines or deletes the malicious files. Nevertheless, despite the numerous efforts against adwares, they continue to plague web surfers with their showy ads and banners as well as the nasty programs they introduce into the computer system. As the sage of the annoying adware continues, web surfers are also equipped with the best tools and utilities to combat them.

In this small article we will not make side-by-side technical specs comparison. We would rather like to give you opinions from both sides - Microsoft and SAP. Both products target mid-size businesses in the USA, Europe (however Microsoft Great Plains - Dynamics GP will be leaving continental Europe market starting with version 10.0 - somewhere in the year of 2008, where Microsoft Business Solutions will probably stake on Microsoft Dynamics NAV - again this is contingent to the progress with Project Green or now Microsoft Dynamics project). Let’s come to the topic:
• Microsoft Dynamics GP strong points. Microsoft, being leader in Operating Systems, Office Products, and also having such platforms as Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server - can now capitalize on ERP technology infrastructure, which includes ERP integration: SQL heterogeneous queries, Sharepoint workflows, web portals. At the same time, long time presence on the market for such products as Microsoft Outlook gives Microsoft the option to count on Outlook user experience - Microsoft Dynamics products will not require user training (from the interface intuitiveness standpoint) - Microsoft Dynamics CRM has Outlook Client, Microsoft Dynamics GP will have tighter integration with Outlook in its version 9.0. Making some comments on another Microsoft product - Microsoft Small Business Accounting - it is integrated with MS Outlook, where you can create invoices and promote outlook contacts to your MS SBA customers.
• SAP Business One. This product was purchased by SAP from Israel software development company four years ago. The driven reason was probably the need to go down to mid-size and even small clientele, plus SAP needed such product to be easily adaptable to Multilanguage and complex international taxation rules. SAP Business One has CRM, ERP/Production modules and technically can serve as ERP/MRP/CRM for manufacturing or servicing subsidiary of large corporation. SAP Business One has modern architecture and design and this is what could be a strong point in decision making to select ERP platform. SAP Business One has integration to Microsoft Office - it could use email messaging through MS Outlook client / SMTP and in integrate with MS Office on the level of COM objects
• Microsoft Dynamics arguments. At the time when Microsoft Dynamics / Project Green are working to enable Microsoft ERP products to work with Microsoft Office technologies SAP is several years behind in this direction. SAP is currently contracting Microsoft to enable SAP mySAP integration with Microsoft Office. Microsoft has this strong argument against SAP Business One - SAP deploys industry Experts who are very strong in general ERP/MRP plus probably Business and Industry Vertical Consulting to implement ERP from midsize business, where technology consulting and expertise come first. The result is longer implementation cycle plus complexity with SAP Business One integration with technology innovative and legacy products
• SAP Business One Arguments. Microsoft is trying to trap you to its technical solutions and proprietary technologies. It is enough if we give you excellent ERP platform which has good integration tools to Microsoft Office plus enables some integration with Windows platform itself - you can use VB.Net or C#.Net (our commentary - you can have your SAP Business One to communicate with outside world with such non-Microsoft platforms as IBM Lotus Notes Domino and use Lotus Notes as Document workflow)
• Additional Microsoft Arguments. There are analytics out there on the ERP strategic research market who support Microsoft in the opinion that SAP Business One will need technology advances (such as developing its own Office platform or tighter cooperation with Microsoft Office products) to stay current with the ERP market I the year of 2010…
• Additional Considerations. Of course SAP has additional bells and whistles, such as language switch - you can switch from German, French or Brazilian Portuguese to US English by pressing Cnrtl key combination. Microsoft Dexterity was designed in earlier 1990th and doesn’t support such a nice functionality and Unicode - the question frequently asked by the prospect from China, India and Arabic World.

If you are still not using any other web browser then FireFox (no matter what OS you are using) you are endangering the security of your computer and missing out on a much richer surfing experience.
One of Mozilla FireFox browser most powerful feature is the possibility to install extensions.
Since Firefox browser is a product of the open code community, this results in an active programming distribution of firefox extensions. The extensions are plugins that just like skins will add functionality to the firefox browser.
The number of extensions is countless and any day more of them are being released. They go from telling the weather or controlling you favorite mp3 player from the browser to adding practical functionality to your special surfing needs, like better managing your downloads or designing web pages.
To Enjoy all that you’ll have to know how to install them. As an example I’ll take a very useful extension named “slime extension list”. After installation of the extension, your extension list will be much slimmer and if you are going to install a lot of extensions, it will be much easier to handle.
Slim Extension, could be found at http://v2studio.com/k/moz/. Click on “Install v0.3″ link. If your security settings are at default (I recommend to not change them) then at the top of firefox browsing window, a yellow message will appear. Click on the allow button, and a new dialog will appear with the message that firefox has blocked the unknown site from installing a software. Add the site to the list of your trusted sites and click the “Install v0.3″ again. This will pop up a window that will follow you throw the easy and fast installation.
After finishing restart your mozilla firefox browser and check in tools extensions.
Doesn’t it look much better?
To get the most out of your firefox, search the internet for “firefox extension” + the keyword of your area of interest. You’ll be surprised to find out how many extensions are out there that can make your life much easier.
Stop using any other browser. Firefox was developed to work with the world agreed HTML standards. It is faster and safer. The spywares, adawares, keyloggers, Trojans, and all the rests were designed to attack the known security flews of the popular browsers.

Since the beginning of computers and software development, the user has wanted ease of use and an intuitive interface. Developers under strict deadlines and rigid design constraints produced functional software designed to complete the task at hand.
For years, users struggled with tedious and sometimes cryptic screens that took a long time to master. This was exacerbated by the fact that programmers rarely left their cubicle, let alone talked with a user. Only recently, has there been an effort by developers to meet user demands for functionality coupled with ease of use.
What is intuitive software design? First, let’s look at the definition for intuitive.
in•tu•i•tive: adj: spontaneously derived from or prompted by a natural tendency.
Intuitive design as it relates to software is designed from the ground up to flow with the user’s natural tendencies with the goal of efficiently completing the required task. By working with the user’s natural tendencies, the software will become more natural and usable.
To achieve this goal, the development team must leave the office and watch users work in their environment. In one case I studied, programmers designing a medical billing software package went to the doctor’s practice and spent days performing the daily tasks with the front and back office staff. Only with hands on experience like this, can intuitive software be developed.
The benefits of this are numerous. By creating software that conforms to user’s needs and work-flow, the learning curve is shortened. The training expense is reduced due to reduced training time. In addition, ongoing training and support is reduced as staff changes or existing staff take on new responsibilities. Another benefit is that the required workload is completed more accurately and efficiently. If the software is comfortable and instills confidence in the user, then the work will be more accurate, the staff will be happier, and the efficiency of the operation will improve.
When looking for new software for your business, insist on a full demonstration. If while viewing the demo you find yourself understanding what you are looking at with little explanation, then this implies an intuitive user interface.
Software that flows with user’s tendencies can justify the switch to a more intuitive software system. Coupled with newer technology and features, the cost justification for upgrading can become very compelling.

Many debate the ability of business decision software to out think their human manager counter parts. Yet in reality many such systems already exist and are replacing humans. Indeed many such systems exist and will continue to be upgraded as they prove their worthiness in business processes. Many of these systems work slightly differently, some give potential decisions numerical and statistical ratings based on the criteria and come up with the best management practice (BMP) or decision based on this.
Many believe that if the system is correctly designed then the criteria can be used for many business decisions. Indeed since we know that human decision making is based on many things it will be up to the programmers and designers of AI business decision matrix software systems to have on board those in the industry or field that who make such decision on a daily basis to help in the design. Those AI systems which would be more human friendly as they mimic the best parts of human interaction and decision making and limit the worst of what the species is capable of, will be the systems most readily chosen to serve in businesses.
So many considerations are necessary in business decision software in any industry. For instance many things need to be considered when choosing manufacturing methods of course and one would presume that design industry specific systems would think all this through. For instance here are some considerations to be considered in manufacturing fields;
You can see rather quickly that simplicity is important in business decision software, yet a lot of thinking needs to go into the criteria and thus failure to do so will cause delays and inefficiencies. Yet one must also note that as the decision becomes more and more complex a properly designed system will be able to outsmart its human counterpart. That day in many business models has already come and gone and in the future AI will be able to outsmart the smartest humans in business. Think on this.

Spyware has become the most prominent computer security problem. How do you choose a good spyware removal tool? Beware of antispyware software which installs spyware/adware to your computer.
Spyware is a hidden software program. It is often used to monitor the browsing and shopping habits of computer users. Spyware can also be a remote control program that steals confidential banking and personal information.
Spyware has quickly become the most prominent internet security problem. According to the National Cyber Security Alliance, spyware infects more than 90% of home PCs. Recent survey shows that spyware is also sneaking into the network of corporate computers.
Spyware is often coupled with free downloads, such as free music, game and software downloads. Spyware may slow down computer, hijack homepage and create uncontrolled pop-up advertisements. Some spyware programs can remain unnoticed, secretly gathering information from the computer. Once installed, spyware is difficult to remove without the help of dedicated antispyware software.
Due to the rise of spyware activity, antispyware programs are in great demand these days. But are these spyware removal tools the same? Do they provide the security consumers need?
There are many reports that some antispyware programs installed their own spyware and adware to the computer. One consumer was quoted saying: “It’s a rip-off. I downloaded the free trial of an antispyware program, only to find out that it added its own adware to my computer.” Other consumers have complained that the antispyware program they use cannot detect all spyware programs. Some even slow down the computer and create pop-up advertisements.
There are a few good antispyware programs in the market today. On the other hand, dozens of spyware removal programs are blacklisted by consumers. Beware of spyware removal tools that are heavily promoted by e-mail campaigns. Never run any free downloads and free scans from unknown software publishers. Their programs may as well be spyware programs themselves. Read independent product reviews from renowned computer magazines or reputable sources. Spending some extra time in research can save you a lot of hassles in the long run.

Vince Lombardi once said that, “The achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual.” If this is the case, then what do we need to do in order to insure success in our companies? How can we combine the efforts of each individual as Mr. Lombardi said was so key to the success of a particular organization? While there are many possible solutions to these questions, I have found something that will help your company become more organized, and your employees more unified in their work. I am talking about groupware.
What is Groupware?
Groupware is software that facilitates the communication between the members of a network workgroup. It allows people within a company, whether they are physically in the same location or in several locations all over the world, to share documents, information, and data. It allows them to collaborate on ideas and projects, by allowing them to essentially work on the same page at the same time. With groupware there is no limit to the number of people that can work on the same project without creating duplicate ideas and work. Since groupware can track all document information, you will never wonder if you are using the latest version of a document.
What about CSCW?
If you have ever heard anything about groupware, you have probably also heard of CSCW. CSCW stands for Computer Supported Cooperative Work and is the study of groupware, i.e. how it is designed, developed, adopted, and used. People that are involved with the study of CSCW not only include software designers and computer scientists, but also researchers and people that study organizational behavior.
How does Groupware differ from the Traditional User Interface?
Where a traditional user interface generally focuses on the use of only one person, groupware relates to groups and understanding how people work and function in a group. Groupware is also more focused on the ease of use for the user because the system must be more responsive as the pace of a particular application is generally driven by the pace of the conversation. Other factors, such as the size of the group, and the roles that people play are taken into consideration when designing groupware.
What can Groupware do for you?
Groupware has many functions and can be a very useful tool to keep your company organized and your employees working in unity. While there are many advantages to using groupware I have listed a few key ideas below. By having some sort of groupware in your company you can allow your employees to:
• Share information
• Keep common schedules
• Manage e-mail
• Maintain bulletin boards
• Have several people work on one document
• Write Collectively
• Hold real-time network meetings
• Share files
• Share calendars
• Share database access
• Share spreadsheets
• Have electronic conferencing
• Have cooperative project management
As you can see, there are several advantages to using groupware to keep your company more organized and unified. Groupware will allow your employees to collaborate on information, ideas, and many other facets of their work and allow them to be more effective, productive, and organized. We already know that when we combine the efforts of each individual in an organization, we will see greater achievements and more success. If your company could benefit from groupware, then I encourage you to find out more about it and explore different possibilities to see which one will fit your needs the best. It will be one of the best decisions you will make with regard to the organization of your company documents, ideas, and information.

If you take a lot of pictures, or are getting ready for an event where you’ll want to have lots of quality photos to include in your family album (i.e. weddings, holiday get-togethers), you’ll want to know more about photo editing software that is both affordable and easy to use. Here are some software programs for editing photographs and graphics that you may want to check out.
Virieu has a free photo editing program that is easy to use, and is compatible with most computers. With the program, you can add captions to your pictures, ‘frame’ your portraits digitally, and make your photos into backgrounds for your screen or to send out in your email by using the fade and shade features that come along with the program. The programs will also show you how to darken or lighten certain sections of the picture, so that you can remove certain items from your photograph. You can try the editing software out for free during a 21-day trail, and then the service is $29.00.
www.reallusion.com also has a wide variety of editing equipment to try that will make any picture you take look professional and impressive. You can take advantage of the muscle-based facial enhancement feature, so that you can ‘fix’ the faces of the people you take pictures of to create a more flattering photograph.
Other products from the company include the Effect 3D Studio, a graphics editing and design program that allows you to make animated graphics no matter what your skill level is. You can also purchase CrazyTalk, a program that allows you to create animated talking characters for PowerPoint and DVD presentations. Most computers are equipped to download the programs (a Windows 98 or higher is usually acceptable), and you can try the products out before you purchase any of the programs.
In order for you to download, edit, and save your photos on your computer, you’ll need a digital camera to take your pictures with. Brands like Canon and Olympus have great digital cameras that are easy for you to use, and produce quality photos that you can save on your computer. You may also want to pick up a book or two with some more basic information on photo editing software, so that you’ll know which programs are easiest to use and most affordable. You can also find new and used photo editing programs, such as Instant Photo Editor on sites like www.amazon.com, with complete CD-ROM instructions on how to make sure you edit great photos every time you use the program.
